Michael Kistler:

HONG KONG Photographer AND Coach

Michael Kistler has spent over two decades photographing cities, with 10 years in Tokyo and more than 10 years in Hong Kong and Singapore. His work explores what happens at the edges, where people and architecture meet, where light does something unexpected, where a moment exists for a fraction of a second and then it's gone.

Michael has been coaching photographers in Hong Kong for years - individually, in small groups, and through collaborations with Soho House, Blue Lotus Gallery, and the Mandarin Oriental. His approach is practical and unhurried: start with where you are, work towards what you want to create. Most clients describe noticing a shift in how they see the world around them within the first sessions.

His fine art work is exhibited and represented by Blue Lotus Gallery and the Hong Kong Arts Collective in Hong Kong, and Picture This in the UK. He is co-founder of Click852, Hong Kong's street photography community, and a published author - The Downfall of Night (2023) documents a decade of nocturnal photography across Asia. Michael is based in Hong Kong and takes on a small number of 1-to-1 photography coaching clients at any one time.
